Hired Hands
This work explores ‘receiving the charge’ (S. Ahmed) of being willful based upon society’s general will. The work is inspired by Sarah Ahmed’s Willful Subject (2014).
The bodies present are confronted with a space that is made fragile through obstacles. The performer tries to shape her system through the molding and reshaping of the fragile dystopian space into a utopia that is equally unstable.
Hired Hands is a physical dance performance that uses 300 brittle blocks and the participation of the audience, accompanied by sound artist Vincent Twigt.
Hired Hands is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts).
